Okay, so it may not be a cure, but it sure does help… I’m sure you clicked on this, saw the photo, and wondered what in the world soap has to do with Restless Legs Syndrome. I had wondered the same thing, so don’t feel too nutty.
While I was pregnant this last time and after my baby was born I had terrible pains in my legs at night. I tossed and turned and tossed again. It seemed that as soon as I got comfortable my leg started aching again. I’m generally a side sleeper, so it bummed me out that the only position my legs didn’t hurt in was when I was lying on my back.
I would wake up in the night and massage my legs. Mine tended to hurt mostly in my outer thighs. It was so bad some nights that I couldn’t hardly sleep or would wake way earlier than I wanted to.
So, I did what most of us do when desperate, I looked to Google for at-home remedies for restless legs syndrome. There are a lot, just so ya know, but the easiest one I found said it’s an old wives’ tale that putting a bar of soap under your fitted sheet, down by your feet, will take away restless legs while you sleep.
I tried it for the first time about 3 months ago and have slept with soap ever since. I don’t know why or how it works, but it does. And it worked the first night.
Last night my legs were giving me problems again, and I woke up to find that my bar of soap had slipped off the mattress. That could be why!
I did a little research on why this might work. Some say it’s magnesium in the soap, and some say it’s in our heads. Whatever it is, I’ve been able to sleep without pain in my legs. I also read that the soap needs to stay fresh, so it needs to either be replaced about every 6 months or shaved or cut into to release new moisture or something.
If you’re dealing with restless, fidgety, or achy legs at night, I definitely recommend giving this a try. All it costs you is a bar of soap!
